AL WAKRAH, Qatar, Nov 19 (Reuters) - England defender Eric Dier described the "terrible situation" for migrant workers in Qatar as "disappointing" and said the issues surrounding the World Cup in the Gulf state had dampened the players' excitement before the showpiece event. Qatar has faced intense criticism from human rights groups over its treatment of migrant workers, who with other foreigners comprise the bulk of the country's population. I am talking about obviously what has happened in the building of the stadiums," Dier, 28, told reporters on Saturday. It's a World Cup and it's something I am extremely proud to be a part of. Maddison and Newcastle United striker Wilson have not played for England since 2019, but have been rewarded for fine starts to the domestic season in the run-up to this month's tournament. Brentford striker Ivan Toney received his first call up for Nations League fixtures against Italy and Germany in September, but missed out on selection with Wilson and Rashford preferred. England begin their World Cup group campaign against Iran on Nov. 21 and also face the United States and Wales.
